Cards, Stamping, Die Cutting, Paper Crafting, Digital Cutting & More!

Friends are Flowers…

Hi guys!  Today is Release Day and all of the new products are now available at Taylored Expressions.  I really loved this release and had so much fun seeing all of the Creative Teams’ projects.  Today I’m using Spring Tulips and Spring Tulips Die.  I love the gorgeous yellows and reds in tulips, and so I embossed the image in white, and used Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolors to color them.

The background is a new embossing folder, Butterfly Swirls and I embossed it with Buttercream Frosting card stock.  I chose Frame in Frame Cutting Plate for my tulips and used foam tape to adhere it.  I love how Salt Water Taffy and Earl Grey card stock really pull together the colors in the Tulips and vase.  The sentiment was stamped on vellum and layered on the vase.

Hi guys, I’m back today with a fun technique called Negative Die Cutting.  Negative die cutting is where you don’t use the die cut shape that’s cut out, instead you use the piece where the die was cut from.  I used one die for my focal point and cut the heart (Cupid’s Arrows) out multiple times.  I saved the hearts for another project.

I sprinkled three different colours of Brusho Colour Crytals, Turquoise, Rose Red, and Purple, on to Distress Watercolor paper and spritzed it with water.

I used the negative cut out from the hearts and layered it on the watercolored piece and added a few sequins for a little extra color.  The sentiment is from Tag-a-long Valentine.

If you haven’t already, I hope you try negative die cutting too!  Thanks for stopping by!

Taylored Expressions Release Day!

Happy Thursday everyone!  Today is Release Day and all of the awesome new products are now available!  Todays card features Under the Flower & Die Combo and it coordinates perfectly with Under the Toadstool (previously released).

ShellyUnderTheFlowerThurs1

This set is simply adorable.  I’m loving this sweet little gnome and the gorgeous flower in this set!  I created a little scene using Build a Scene dies and have to say that the Build a Scene dies make it so easy to layer everything together.

Hi guys!  I’m back today to share a technique called Inlaid Die Cutting.  If you’re not familiar with it, check out the Inlaid Die Cutting Tutorial.  I used hearts and butterflies for my project today.

ShellyDEC2015InlaidDieCutting-2

I cut a layering base for my technique and started by place one heart down and die cutting it, then adding another layer, die cutting and so forth.

ShellyDEC2015InlaidDieCutting-3

Here’s a picture of what some of the hearts looked like after they were cut.

ShellyDEC2015InlaidDieCutting-5

This technique was super fun and I think my favorite part was adding the sentiment to the hearts.  It looks so clean and fun!

ShellyDEC2015InlaidDieCutting

I added a few sequins as my finishing touch and think I will be using this technique more often.  It wasn’t nearly as intimidating as I first thought it would be and ended up being a lot of fun!  Have you tried Inlaid Die Cutting?

Whoo Loves You?

Hi guys, it’s Release Day and all of the new products are now available at Taylored Expressions!  Love is in the air and today’s project is perfect for all your cross stitch lovers out there.  I used Stitch by Stitch and Embroidery Hoop for my card today.  I think this is one of the cutest sets out there and used the sentiment as my background.

ShellyStitchbyStitchThurs2

I absolutely love the Embroidery Hoop die, it’s such the perfect compliment for this stamp set!  I added vellum to soften the background and added a little sequin for a little something extra.  I used the MISTI stamping tool for my image, added ink only to the areas I wanted, and was able to get a perfectly colored image.

Happy birthday ‘lil skipper!

Hi guys, I’m back with a card that uses an oldie but goody, stamping technique…paper piecing!  When I first started making cards, I really loved the look of paper piecing.  Now I find I use paper piecing all the time and love the results!  For my card I used Ships Ahoy & Die Combo (I followed THIS tutorial for my step card).

ShellyNOV2015PaperPiecing1

As you can see, the tugboat has paper piecing.  I used Rainbow Brights PP and stamped the smaller portion of the tugboat onto it and cut it out.  Once cut out, I simply adhered it over the stamped image.

TIP – Using stamps that have images with straight lines or smooth curves make it easier to cut out.

ShellyNOV2015PaperPiecing0

You can see how a little bit of pattern paper can make the image pop!

ShellyNOV2015PaperPiecing3

I did the same for the sailboat…see the green sails?  Paper piecing is such an easy and fun way to change how your images look.  Do you like to paper piece too?

Taylored Expressions Release Day! Holiday Charms

Hi, guys!  It’s Release Day and I have a simple, yet adorable project, to help your guests know which wine glasses are theirs this holiday season.  Today I’m using Holiday Charms, which is a set of 6 charms…perfect for your cards and tags, or use them like I did and make charms for your glasses.

ShellyHolidayCharmsThurs1-1

I die cut the charms in various colors and put them in small groupings.  I used metallic white and gold card stock, along with Sprinkles, Blue Corn, Red Pepper, Sweet Basil and Salt Water Taffy.  The results are so cute!

ShellyHolidayCharmsThurs4

These would also be fun for children to tie on their gifts…the Wire Charm Rings would attach right on the ribbon quite nicely.
